I have a mesa studio pre that is starting to get really noisy (being that its almost 20 years old, has seen a ton of (ab)use and the tubes have never been touched)  Just wanted to know if anyone has tried out the SPAX7 in place of the 12AX7/ECC.  They're only a couple dollars more.  Or if anyone has any other suggestions, im open.  Def dont want valves that are $50/pc.  Just not in the budget.  Was going to replace them all, 4 12ax7 and a single 12AT7.

Suckers Pay An EXtra $7

think i found my answer on one of the guitar boards... lol thought this was rather amusing.  Apparently mesa just rebrands sovtecs and JJ's.  I remember my old tech was really into Svetlana's (dunno why, maybe he knew a chick with that name) but I guess I can't really go wrong replacing them with whats in there.  The pre sounded pretty good to begin with.

mesa boogie has a store right down the street from the studio. They have done me well in a pinch for tubes for our leslie 147 and hammond cv with percussion kit.  Outside of that I never was like oh gotta use mesa tubes, even in the mesa amps i have replace tubes in.
