Hello wise and talented diy'ers.  I am asking for wisdom and suggestions towards a diy build.  The search won't find "pre amp for me".  :)

Here is what I am looking for and I am hopeful with all these great minds here to help provide a solid direction for me,  personally.

  • I do not wish to build a 500 series pre.
I would like a 1u space build with its own internal power supply.
    Phantom power
    Phase
    Pad
    Sensitivity /pre gain
    Out put gain
I would like the pre to have high gain for use with ribbon mics too.
I do not want an eq section
Neve style is a trendy term... I don't specifically need this yet if someone has something in this style with the above wants included I am open to ideas.
PCB easily available transformers and parts.  I am an experienced diy'er  yet a support group for fault finding would be great or provided build instructions.
Faceplate not necessarily needed as I can fabricate my own but if it's available it cuts down on my build time.

If this type of build rings any bells please let me know!

Thanks for all your ideas an opinions.

Stephen

Dont discount a remote power supply. Especially for high gain mic pre.

The hairball lola kiks butt and may still be available non-kit/pcb ala carte

Who makes a pcb for the THAT mic pre chip?

Perhaps you can consider my MICPRE ONE

Although it is in 500 format  I now have a 1U 3 position backplane which allows upto 3 modules to be fitted in a 1U case. See picture below. I have just designed the case but it will not be ready before the end of April. But you can also do your own.

It has all the functionalities of my TAC 511 on each slot

If you want on board psu then you use only two slots and place the psu in the area normally occupied by the 3rd slot. I have the psu for that too.

However, do not ignore what Shabtek says about external power supply.
