I'm impressed by the conical mount under the capsule, thus removing any sound reflections under the capsule.  First time I've ever seen that.

Microtech Gefell did that on several of their microphones. It worked there, too.

Oh, one clarifying bit: when the original poster talks of a U 47 with the "original KK67 capsule", I assume he means that the KK67 originally came with that particular microphone? Because the original original capsule on the U 47 was the M 7, replaced in 1960 by the K 49. The U 47fet used the K 47. I can't find a KK67 capsule listed in Neumann's chart.

Peace,
Paul

People often get confused with the K vs. KK thing. KK stands for "Kapselkopf" - that's the complete head. The correct designation for the capsule alone is K...

K47 is the same capsule as K49, but on the K49 front and back are matched for symmetrical patterns in omni and figure 8 mode. I've read that matching is so good these days that all K47 capsules are K49 grade now.

However, there is a new K47 cardioid only variant that was introduced with the TLM49. That capsule is gold sputtered on one side only.

I didn't write KK67 for the U 47.  I wrote KK47, but yes K47 is the proper name as Rossi said.  The K47/K49 was also used in the Neumann U 47's in 1960's when Georg Neumann GmbH switched to no longer using PVC M7 capsules.

So my buddies Neumann U47 has all original parts including the capsule :)

Right you are -- my eyes got scrambled when looking at the post with the sound clips. My error!

Well I have an old CAD E200 which looks similar to that mic. Made in USA. Same setup. Same crazy $150 shockmount. I bought that new Cad E300 or whatever and is a very good mike. Def high end. But A little crisp. I got it on a deal that included a Cad E100. The 100 is surprisingly good if not funky looking. I still use the 200. Sold the 300 when I got a U87. Maybe shoulda kept the 100 tho. Pretty damn useful. But sold it off when times got rough a few years ago.

I used all of them on a few CD's. Supposedly the 200 has a crap capsule from China in it. Wouldn't know. But has been serving me well. Good vocal mic. Nice and flat when ya need that. I am game for mic mods tho bring it on! New capsule for my 200? :)

I would seriously not doubt that thing is a great mic. But haven't tried that one. I'll see if I can find an 350 to try. My 200 is very flat tho. No quirky high end sibilance or anything. Don't sound like a China mic. But guess the battery is getting old... I should replace it.

John

Concerning the E200, it's a very similar circuit, but uses an electric capsule... I've never used one, but if you wanna sell me yours let me know :)

Now the new E300^2 uses a chinese K67 copy.  Idk, if you can just swap the capsule out of the 200 and put a new one in since the orignal capsule isn't externally biased.

And about the batteries, definitly give them a look every now and then.  One buddies NiMH batteries started leaking and caused the contacts to get damaged.  He cleaned it with some water/ethonal mix and a tooth brush and most of it came off, but if only he would have checked....

mista, I owned an E-200 for many years (actually, I owned two). I bought it right after the AT4033 that I found to be WAY too eshy on my voice....using an ADAT and a Mackie 1604 (it was so bad that I thought I either lost all of my skill or was losing my mind, lol).

It's a cool mic that's very large but uses two small (mid?) sized capsules (22 mm, IIRC).
Kinda looked funny - like a motorcycle engine in a truck.

Anyway, the mic was warm and had none of the eshiness of the AT4033; HOWEVER, relative to today's typical noise figures, it was VERY noisy.
You can definitely hear it.

I think it just might be an interesting candidate for a DIY project - namely, replacing the capsule(s).
