Hey Cats,

I'm new to this forum, and I encountered this problem; I searched around for monitor stations like "the big knob" or presonus monitor desk station but I really don't want to spend around 300 bucks for something so easy to set up.

if you guys have any ideas, please feel free to help me out.

where can I find these products and what's the best way to set it up and what-not.

all I'm really looking for is, a switcher that can jump from monitor A-B or C. I have a digi 002 rack line out if it helps.

thank you all,

- Fernando

Igors project is probably a bit more than you want to spend.

So basically you just want a volume knob with a 3 channel (stereo) crash switcher yeah?

Hi,

i don't understand your questions, maybe it's my english..
Are you asking what controller you should buy or make? And what do you mean when you say you want to jump from A-B or C? Do you want to switch between channels A/B and possibly C, or you want some kind of crossfader like those on DJ mixers?
Monitor controllers were discussed before, if you search there are schematics and ideas for many kinds.

For dividing one stereo channel into three stereo channels Lorlin offers 3 pole 4 positions rotary switch. You could put stereo potentiometer on every stereo output, so you can control volume.
You might also add mute to all stereo channels, i think this is possible with toggle switch.
And yes, switching at line levels is for sure easier.

I'm wondering what value potentiometers should have when line outs are around 600ohms, and line ins are 10k or more. I found many different examples, but can't find explanation. Do we need a buffer or something? Some controllers ARE active.

hey,

so! yes, as far as my plan is to build it.

it would go stereo in - threw a volume control knob - threw a dim switch - maybe a mute button - then a switcher that has 3 possible outs a/b/c which are stereo outs.

that is all I'm aiming for.

I just got excited.  That makes sense to me now.  I've been trolling for many years here and I'm starting to build projects but I have little to no knowledge.  But I follow that with easy...  ;D

this is what I did, its less than 300 and very good. I odered a stepped attenuator from a guy on ebay in hong kong, good built quality and 30 $
than I bought funk balancing and debalancing modules and a lap 2 headphone amp, built a psu an put it in a box. All together 150 € ...not cheap
but buffers help dealing with impedance issues and the funk modules are fantastic, check the specs.
