I?m thinking about buying a pair of 1176 boards and building a stereo unit, but I?ve heard that with the stereo units put out by UA the sounds is different than/not as good as the mono units?.possibly due to a shared power supply? I don?t know, but that is what I?ve heard. I?d like to avoid this problem (if it really is a problem ? so much misinformation on the web) and thought I?d throw this out there.

Is this really the case? Is there a solution?

Hi,

Two mono PCBs fed from the same PSU to form a stereo device, will perform exactly the same as the two mono PCBs built into two different enclosures and with two PSUs.

maybe the "stereo UA 1176" you talk about is just an 1178, basically a stereo machine with the same controls as the 1176 but with different components inside.

Hope this clarified something...

Yeah, I think the dual 1176 thing that UA makes is different from the UA 1176 reissue. Companies always change stuff cause they think it doesn't make a difference, but it usually does.

Most often people associate the 1178 as being a stereo 1176 but this is not entirely the case. There was a big artical about it on the UA website a few months back.

As for the 2176 sound different then the reissue could be... then again the reissue doesn't sound like the original. 2176 does have a stereo switch so you can link both sides together much like you can stereo link 2 original 1176's. I dunno it's all over priced to me....
