I was given a Monster cable snake and before use i decided to check it and found out it's pin 3 hot on the XLR. Do you know if i could be a mistake just on my particular cable or is it common practice for their snakes ?

How old is that monster? if your concerned the cable is wired pin 3 hot vs pin 2 hot. then using your dmm test continuity or test Ω to be sure.

As suggested before it could be the unit your plugging into.

That cable is probably 15 years old, i did check it out with a dmm to make sure it was to the tascam pinout and that's how i found out
it was pin 3 hot. I wanted to use it for a digital output from a Digi 192. it goes to baluns for conversion from 110 ohms to 75ohms.
My monitor controller takes AES input on coax.

Attached is the aes/ebu pinout for a 192. I assume your using something like a studio technologies monitor controller? Anyway looks like you will be rewiring the monster. You probably will need to anyway to change genders on the XLR. But yeah rewire it at the XLR side, I would guess the monster as a molded end on the dsub side? Or better yet since it is monster, sell it at 2X the price of regular d-sub snakes. Since it's monster I am sure you can get it for that price. Then buy a snake, your ready to go and have money left over for beer.

Note: that the -10 and the +4 inputs on a 192 share the same pinout.

yes exactly studio technologies controller .he xlr are ok except that there is no slack on the cable inside, it's not going to be fun switching pin 2 and 3. i would happily sell it and get a proper cable but who would want to buy this monstruosity . Thanks for the pinout, it looks like the tascam standard.
