plate do not have to be big.
i believe a few companies made small plates over the years. i know at least a couple did.

When I was in school, the studio had a plate tucked in a pocket door by the machine room. It was 2'x4' and sounded pretty good.

MrZpliff,
What was the end cost / weight?

I would estimate 450 euros. but then its a welded steel frame that I had a made for me.
Dunno about the weight, but we were 2 people who carried it down to my basement.

Enchilada:
I dont think you can solder them to the plate without breaking them. just use glue. A small amount of epoxi worked for me. put the driver in the middle. the pickups soewhere 2/3 to the right and to the left, but not at exactly the same distsance to get stereo. Use sticky tape and experiment before the glue. google "tape op diy plate reverb" the build instructions should be out there somewhere.

if you don't mind, I have some questions.

how is your sheet metal suspended?

is the hanger/chassis sitting on anything special?

What size is your piece of sheet metal?

What gauge is your piece of sheet metal?

What material is the sheet metal?

What do the speakers do I see?

What has been done to the speakers?

Where can I find any special parts for this?

Where might I need to know about more than meets the eye from the photos?

What PZM/contact mic would be most appropriate?

I'm ready to get my hands dirty with one of these real quick.

revived a year and a half later!! add me in with buildafriend, I'm gearing up to make a couple emt 140 clones, fortunately for me, i am a construction contractor, and a reasonably accomplished Tig, and Mig welder. I am probably going to build the frames out of aluminum tube to keep the weight down, and use threaded rod and wire bosch actuators from some bmw seats, for motorized damping plates, i am also looking for as much info as possible before i embark, so any leads/links or other, much appreciated.

Thanx
T
