anyone have them?

I just want to make sure this a correct pinout before I wire in a new PSU as the old one grew legs and walked away. I found a link in the neumann forums once that had the pinout but like anything on the internet if you don't save it when you find it, it gets lost.

pin 1 - AF-
pin 2 - +4V (filament)
pin 3 - 0V/ground
pin 4 - +120V (plate)
pin 5 - AF+
pin 6 - shield, switchable to ground

Edit: never mind. Groupdiy schematics connection saves the day.  :)

sorry for reviving a really old thread.
Is this pinout correct?

I have been given a really old Sennheiser MD-421/6 which has the same connector and I'd like to make an educated guess on what might be the correct pinout.

Just for the record, this connector is still available new for €8,99 from Conrad Elektronik in Germany, Part No. 738760

yeah, but still it has + / - / shield.

I cannot image that those are on different pins with both (completely different) mice sharing the same connector.

The DIN-connector version of MD421 is most commonly a 3-pin version - the MD421-N:

The DIN-norm specifies balanced microphone connection in DIN45594.

yes, I am aware of the other versions and also have the script logo, small tuchel 3-pin version of the 421.

this is what I've got here, maybe the connector was modded as I can't find any mention of it in any documentations:

I can absolutely imagine the pinout would be different!  One mic needs voltages from the power supply and the other has audio only.  Even though they are the same connector and from the same country, do not assume they use the same pins.  However, you won't hurt anything on the 421 by connecting it wrong (you would on the KM54!).

ok, I just soldered it up, it is not the above posted pinout, that's for sure!

I think I will take some crocodile clips and go for trial and error.

btw. the mic has a sticker on the bottom reading "421/6" so it is surely original.

Not sure if this applies but found this on the web

it's for a beyer m-69. yes not the same company by any means but maybe similar pinout?

Or you could slide the connector out and see which pins are connected the wire from there

interesting, thanks for looking that up!

So this is more or less the same pinout as KM-54 (only polarity inversed), leading me to believe that the 421/6 will have this pin layout too!

As that is what I have wired up right now the bad news is that this mic is probably busted.
I'll open it up and see what's up inside when I find some time...

You are probably better off with a meter than a bunch of internet pinout info.  Measure all the pins looking for continuity/low ohms.  Then try various connections.  Or do like Pucho812 said and pull the connector out and look at what is connected.  It's not that complicated!

just for the record, it turned out that the KM-54 and M-69 pinouts are correct for this MD-421.

It turned out that the 20cm of mic cable that I was using to make the adapter was intermittent

PIN 1 +
PIN 5 -
PIN 3 shield

not sure about the correct polarity, I'll have to check, but the mic works fine now, thanks again for all your input on this!
