Aww yeah...sweet oblivion :)

You can gladly come over and stick your latest trick pony in if you like, I won't even be jealous.

Lord knows, she's got enough...uhh...inputs ;)

You can even try to mistreat her and she'll go "aww baby you know I had a lot harder men back
when I was just a working girl".

Indeed.

Thank god we get to die in the end or I sometimes wouldn't know how to survive this life ;)

Or how would the Germans put it? http://www.myvideo.de/watch/4609143/Juli_Dieses_Leben

...and the music...don't feel like it did when I felt it with you...tra la la la la....

=> Firewire slave mode. (Apple calls it Target Console Idiot mode)

Well it's got just all the regular stuff, like was built for +6dB broadcast level iirc with headroom up to +22dB
(but someone better clarify that)...
will do ;D
german broadcast specs at that time have been +6dBu nominal level, +9dB headroom.
there are modules with a max level of +15dBu (still in specs), my V475-2B is at +22dBu (at 40Hz 1% THD)

... this console was the "Überspielpult" (how do you say that in English?) for Hessian radio.
transfer desk? at least it is a big "Überspielpult". and with MicPres it might have been used for other things before the HR used it as a transfer desk only.

Lukas, ready to visit me at work on saturday?
there is a huge Neumann console ...

Huge-sounding V475Bs as mic preamps...
sure a typo, the V475s are your summing amps ;)
you wanted to write V476b (I see them on the photo)

... someone removed the 450€ monitoring cassette and monitoring amps before they tossed it (but easy to re-slot
thankfully)...
let me know what you need

I already told you it´s the wrong desk for you. Be honest, the desk was responsible for your headache, not the Halos or wiring..... Send it over to me, I´ll gladly take it.

Just to encourage you my story: I got new rooms at work last September and I´m still in debugging mode with audio wiring, mainssupply, digital routing,.... Since weeks I´m trying to find faults, you cannot imaging what´s possible to go wrong. Today (german official holiday!) I´ve been there to take an entire building-complex of the mains to find out where I get mains spikes from (without success, of course  :p ). And I did not even start with video.... YOu´re on the lucky side with your small setup, believe me.

If you ever sell the desk......  ;)

Yup, I will keep you in mind for if I ever do.

But now that it's working...unlikely - it's funny you mention the hassle because really if I never had
gotten the desk what's the point of all the Halos? Indirectly it's even right. So now I have a job installing
a Harrison in Switzerland with that exact Halo setup, had I known about Frank's story earlier I might have
been able to get him the gig too.

Yeah...chasing monsters till they're gone. With a theatre and movie FX background...

>>you cannot imagine what´s possible to go wrong

Maybe I don't wanna ;) I have some great stories about 10 liters of plaster, or 4h quickshot 600 actors but
where are the continuity cards? Oh, she overslept...aha...

The desk of course was the most reliable part of them all, made me wanna trash everything and go A 800.
Bet you and Keef would have a great time, he's another sick facility diver...well actually you can't call him
sick...crazy+organized is more like it ;)

Mains blarney...hm. We had the prob with Halo sometimes that people would kablam their FW ports because
there could be a massive voltage across different grounds in certain parts of Germany. This got so darn
pesky that we ended up designing a dongel to short that stuff out. Which of course gave me the spookies
that I had blown my setup up hardware-side, which, thankfully...not.

Ah the dB thing right - Bernd was calculating it once for me, was that dBV in that case? I do remember
him saying about that internal -15dB is "zero" nominal output=+6dB, right, so you end up over 20 @full blast.

Right 476, that's it. Saturday does sound good. I'll give you a call before I come.

Just got up this morning and this pops up on itunes:

Hope you get it sorted ;)

Even if your setup starts talking like this:

Eh, eh.. LukasArts, you're spewing even more BS over the interweb forums..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnJ7hmhjPQA

What, in your world, is not BS, exactly? We're getting down to pretty basic here...

...unless you mean something technical I obviously screwed while posting.

But once again, the Germans don't get to see...grrr.

hey, relax / meant as a joke re-morcheeba / nothing technical or particularly deep - pretty benevolent in fact

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZX89eLL8i0

Sure - playful nature is cool. I was just getting curious what is now his pwny?

Morcheeba, yeah...sometimes the self-designated potheads will go and mix things up pretty
good...like specifically the last one - so, what do we have here they're singing about?

Someone who's hopelessly bashing his head against a wall and just won't see it or a discred
to someone sticking it out in the face of adversity misinterpreted as such? For the life of me
I can't sort that one...

Oh and the link is censored again. What is this stupid thing with YouTube? Grr...not like it's
gonna make these companies any more money, peeps are more likely to go "screw you major
labels for censoring my youtube fun now I'm really not gonna buy anything"...

I mean, specifically, removing videos that ran back in 1985? Now that's just not honest.

err... censored again? I give up. The song was motorhead-i dont believe a word, particularly in reply to "everybody...morcheeba"

maybe google helps to find a non-censored link: http://www.google.com/search?&q=motorhead+i+dont+believe+a+word

but then, this thread got PWNED by all the youtoobe links. So yeah, youtube is the bad guy.

p.s.: not only it got pwned, it got brewed by youtube - so now it sorts of belongs to brewery.

Ah, nice.

You know, I just thought about this thread and kinda went "what's this guy's problem? I mean,
setting up 3 DACs and screens and stuff? Get outta town..."

I guess it's not the stuff that works, it's getting rid of all the BS that doesn't.

So the PWNing continues...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfBY96qxVRQ

Tease... even MORE COSMIC BS.. from the land of youtube.

However, with digital there is one problem that can not be aleviated:
Most of cumputer interfacing is done via "consumer" ports (fw, usb), which in itself has a different "progress" timeline, namely the "evolution" is sped-up by consumer market dictate and is not guaranteed to have a long-lived existence, even if technically (hardware-wise) this would be feasible, software/OS updates may render some perfectly functioning devices obsolete in a couple of years.

Therefor, in the spirit of this thread, I propose a simple, non-digital YOUTUBE cure for the digital headache:

What's next, never upgrade?

Next best thing to having a hammer. I have 3 operating systems atm, one as a main OS that does
everything and two "frozen state" ones on a separate HD. These are fully built but stripped down
and optimized for electronics workshop and studio, I took it one time that basically, once you have
a machine, you have a machine (like, upgrading, right? If a computer DAW and DAC setup is working
and sounding awesome with all its stuff, and has all I need, rest goes outboard, happy).

So while I do run some mix-for-fun stuff off the main, really the frozen-state system is what I use
for running the setup, because it's more or less predictable. New stuff gets tried out on main, that one
has time machine on it so I can rewind it, and if new stuff is reliable, gets transferred.

Actual music data gets written to a separate HD, which gets mirrored.

The workshop one just acts as a backup failsafe if I get PCB orders etc and something on main screws.
