the thought i had that these could be used in place of a output transformer? or with the pultec that has a passive output...

are these only for a summing makeup gain?
BA283 with a output trannie to make up a Pultec

Not really. You CAN load the output stage with a T1310 inductor if you can find one (it's a large, gapped inductor of around 1 Henry). Neve used these and then took an unbalanced out from pin F on the 283 card, through a blocking cap.

You couuld do this and have an unbalanced out, but you will HAVE to either load the card with the proper inductor or the proper transformer for it to work.

If you want a killer-sounding, class-A output that doesn't require a transformer (or a big-a__ inductor), why not use a single Hamptone gain stage (from his JFET mic preamp)? It's a fantastic-sounding, inexpensive, and extremely simple-to-build circuit. Very few parts, easy to lay out, and uses single +24 volt for power.

Started building this last night

Used a Lorlin with 4 stops for the adjustable gain - actually did it a cack handed way

Out from RGX into the Lorlin - back into RGx then jumpered RG to Gain
(hopefully that makes sense)

With regards the pinouts for output transformer - do they correspond to a Carnhill LO1166 as well as the transformer mentioned in the schematic?

Just out of interest - if the Lorlin switch is labeled Gain Out/Make Up Gain/Output Volume
What do you label - the 50k/47k pot after the input?
I am a bit lost on that

Sorry for the bump...
Anybody?
