"Rupert Neve Returns with Portico Series Mic Pre"
http://news.harmony-central.com/Newp/2005/5012.html

This part is especially interesting:
"The 5012 Duo Mic Pre will be joined by equalization, filtering, dynamics control, assignment, mixing and monitoring modules, and even a tape emulation channel."

Thanks for the link, I found:
SILK FEATURE:
The RND 5012 uses mainly single-sided amplifier circuitry that excludes any possibility of crossover distortion. The ?SILK? button reduces negative feedback and adjusts the frequency spectrum to provide a very sweet and musical performance.

Anybody have the Gerbers yet?

No. Forget that.
Long Live Rupert!

Wonder when AMS-Neve gonna make some comments on this

actually, they already have, in private, and through legal council. Apparently, Mr Neve is not allowed to use his name as the company name as per legal agreements when he originally sold the company in the '70's.

Doesn't it seem funny to anyone else that he is now making gear based around the same type of technology (transformers and discrete) that he wrote off as "effect processors" in the past? I can't remember which magazine it was in, but he gave an interview saying that all the older, classic Neve kit was in effect "effect processors", and that he now strove for more accuracy.

I guess you gotta give the people what they want..

Jeff

wow, I wonder if he designed a new opamp. how cool is this gonna be? the site shows a future stereo limiter, if its made with the topology he's talking about with the mic pre, that could be pretty stellar, definitely something to look forward to. Im really looking forward to the next aes.

Yes, I noticed this too. Rupert must be a democrat . Personally, I'm really happy about the apparent return to his roots. Of course, give the people what they want! The website literature sounds very exciting.

Well,
I suppose people can change their opinion on things. I think it is accurate to call them "effect processors" . Maybe he now sees a need for both things.

Isn't this the same type of thing that happened to James B. Lancing after he left Altec-Lancing and started Lancing Sound Inc. and then had to change the name to JBL.

Sort of, although Lansing was dead by then. See
