I have a pair of NS10M that served me well for almost 20 years now.

it started making a crackling sound, not too loud but bothers me. I dont think its blown speakers because it does this crackle even without sound, sounds almost like bad contacts and dirt. Since i could not find those, I suspect its the crossover caps.

My question is, can i change the pair of 2.7uF/160v original caps for one 5.6uF 200v? Or the other option readly available is a pair of 2.2uF/250v to replace the two.

I struggle to imagine how a passive loudspeaker could make a crackling sound on its own. It seems far more likely that the amplifier connected to them is the issue, doesn't it?

"on its own" i meant plugged into the amp but without music playing, not disconnected.

but your guess was good. Its was not the caps neither the tweeters (although the caps were way off). Its the amp. Reason i could not figure this before its because it only happens after a few minutes. When i tried other speakers on it i just plugged for like a minute or so, not waiting.

Now i did a prolonged test and the crackling started on another fully working speaker.

So this thread is finished. sorry
