Hi, I am replacing noisy fans on my MTR90 mkII.

I can't find 50v AC 120mm fans...what is the recommended path from here?

Do I replace with a DC fan...will it run if I put one diode in line...am I on the right track?

Further, the psu fan has a funny looking green cylinder on top, with a washer and nut... what is that all about? should I remove it? It looks a bit odd...oh and it has a little black box next to it...it seems to impede the psu being fully pushed into position.

Thanks.

I just did this on my machine.

My solution was to use standard 12VDC computer case fans.  You need to get high RPM fans in order to move as much air as the originals.  I bought Noctua 2,000rpm fans and they seem to work well, although I then found the Cooler Master Sickle Flow fans that are a bit quieter if that's a concern.  Search around on Newegg or something like that.

I bought a wall wart supply with an in-line on/off switch that I mounted next to the machine's main power switch. It's not pretty but it works. I  just ran the wires along the outside of the machine. It seemed like it would be quite a bit of work to run all the wires internally and integrate it "properly" the same way the originals are. Definitely possible though.
