Hey All,

I've got an issue with a Status 18R right now. The Mix bus is constantly oscillating with a staticy digital hash sound. Even with all the input modules removed. Also the digital control over the input module setup is acting really wonky. If I'm trying to meter the channel inputs about 10 of the bargraphs just peg and oscillate. Does anyone have any experience with these computer controlled devices? I haven't been able to locate a reset switch and the Program disk seems to boot up just fine.

The desk doesn't actually have the automation computer but it does have all the VITC stuff. Maybe that needs to be terminated?

Any suggestions?

Thanks
justin

I know this is and old post but I too have a Satus console that has a similar issue. Most of the time the thing powers up and once the console's boot sequence is through modules 25-32 have their meters pegged. I don't get any audio artifacts from this issue because the console passes no audio unless it boots correctly which is maybe on the 10th try. Did you ever get the issue resolved? Ever learn anything? Perhaps we could compare notes. I can see by the lack of replies in the past year that there aren't many of us in this boat.

When I was studying at the conservatory, we had an Otari Status with the same issue. It was regularly maintained, and we were told it was crosstalk from the logic circuits, so I assumed it to be a design limitation.
Know this is not helping you, sorry.

I would like to bring this back up and I wonder if anyone could comment on it.

I have a Status in for repair of the same fault from a new owner. I have already rebuilt the power supplies for the audio path but have come across the noise issue now that the PSU's are working.

I have also noticed that the electrolytics across the +-15v rails are rated at just 16v.

This is a fault that appears over time. They were not like this new out of the factory so it has to be age related. I have tried starting the console adding a channel at a time. You can get it very to almost 18 channels and then on the 19th the noise would appear. BUT taking out channel 19 would not stop the noise after a restart of the desk. It would take the removal of at least 6 channels!

It is not always one channel that cases the fault but i would think that these capacitors on the power rails have aged and that it is setting off the console.

thoughts? ;-)
