I've gotta say that I've never been a fan of Peavey amps, but I've seen them walk away from many situations that other amps folded in.

If you're working with Monkeys that don't know any better, best use this stuff as it won't blowup (despite driving 1Kw into a direct short because somebody thought hooking up subs with 1/4" connectors was a good idea until the nut backed off and shorted the connector under full load).

back of the mother board, heavy traces required for the high currents involved,

good board material and tinned traces,

Yup that is not an accident, letting solder build up on the traces increases the current carrying capability.

The clip lights on the amps were blinking in time with the music all night long but neither amps nor speakers failed the whole time he was there.
Many live sound guys and ALL DJs think that's what the lights are for  ;D

So forget peak hold etc.  They just gotta keep time wid da music ... and wats da point wid different coloured lights if they don't all get a chance to shine.

It's actually OK for the DDT limit lights to flash occasionally on peaks and the DDT had something like 20dB of gain reduction capability so you will probably start clipping your source before overdriving the amp.  A nice benefit of the clip limiting is that it reduces the average power the amp and speakers would experience without the limiting. No doubt protecting many Peavey customers from themselves.  Happiness is not having to explain to your customers why their speakers failed.

Hi

Thanks for this.  I'm collecting one tomorrow. :)

It's for my nephew who is 17 and putting his first PA together.

Take care....

John
