I found this on the web today...  I like the idea but then again I remember it was a DIY project at one point in time.  How ever I do see they made a few changes to the project some changes that I find interesting. plus the additional hp and lp is neat. hmmmmmm I think we could mock up something very similar

It seem a very nice "toy" but i hate "devices" with no space for fingers  :-\

it need 2 slots space as well ....

I like how they took a project and furthered it vs just a straight copy... I am really intrigued about the 2x buttons...

State variable filters make it quite easy to do something like that... If you implement the circuit placing the capacitors in the HP and LP sections as two values in series, if you put a double pole switch shorting one of those capacitors in each section you have immediately created a 2X button. Actually I believe that some EQs like the Millennia do something like that, but with a 10x instead of 2x to basically have another band.

For my project i use a similar trick to change the +/-6dB into +/- 12dB by selectively shorting a section of the gain resistor.

But I agree with r2d2... unless you have very small fingers using such an EQ is very difficult. I personally went with such small configuration because my wife is the main user to the EQ and has very small fingers... But what is a pity is that the PEQ1549 seems to use two spaces :S
