There are still THOUSANDS of these 2N404's here. I could make a bean bag chair out of them.Just crud some might appreciate or some understand. Kicking it off with some sorted Germanium for waiting to be installed in some gear we made. Going back a ways here.View attachment 139867
I can take a look - that seems to be a VERY LOW hfe PNP transistor with higher than normal voltage limits. Like a small power transistor in a TO-5 can. I can look thorough the unsorted transistor boxes at some point. I do have ASY48 one of the bins says, I am not sure how many. The picture above are 2N404 - there are thousands (10's of) those here. There was a stretch of time here where we were buying ALL through hole transistors that the electronics vendors had left. RCA etc, was kind enough to list their distributors in the back of those old tube manuals, and come to find out (at the time) some of them were still around with inventory. There are more full boxes of unsorted transistors here than sorted ones. Enough to fill a car, and I am still looking, lol.Do you happen to have any ASY77 ?
I have been doing some simple experiments with germanium transistors and I like them a lot.
I once did a simple mono line amp and I was surprised what it did to bass and vocal, so I built another for stereo and was quite happy with the imaging and overal presentation just by introducing some germanium gain.
It was not a good circuit and after some time thermal runaway ended the life of my transistors.
It sounded great while it lasted...
Couldn't we design an all pnp germanium single 24V supply DOA to use them up?There are still THOUSANDS of these 2N404's here. I could make a bean bag chair out of them.
Sure! I have been sitting on them waiting for a worthy project. I am sitting on about 60 low noise 24V linear supplies too. They were getting too hard to find to throw them all into stomp boxes.Couldn't we design an all pnp germanium single 24V supply DOA to use them up?
Cheers

I love itNot particularly directly electronic but it is an electronic art work that is on my office wall.
You can guess the artist.
