It ain't the purtiest, but it works nicely & cost me under $150.00.

The chassis, front panel & vu were from an old piece of tape duplication equipment I picked up cheap on e bay. My layout is a little funky because I used the original holes. Wiring is somewhat improved over what you see in the picture--I ran shielded cable to the input & output pots & tidied stuff up slightly, but wiring is not my strong point.

Thanks to mnats & Jakob & everybody that helped me out.

Well done Tom, like the color looks a cool sea foam green! Cant beat that price. I'm in the middle of building a G1176 on the cheap, what did you use for the graphics?

Jeff --
The paint is Krylon Kids Tuff--takes a while to get really dry, but the colors are pretty cool & seems to hold up fairly well. The graphics are dry transfer (rub-on) lettering. Font is microgramma bold. I put a coat of clear acrylic spraypaint over the lettering to help keep it from getting scraped up--it's not a perfect solution, but it works pretty well.

So what are your secrets to keeping the budget down?[/quote]

Pretty much all the savings was in the front panel, enclosure & vu meter--the rest of the suff mostly came from the usual sources (mouser, digikey, etc.)

from Jeff:
sea foam green

Interesting you use this description... is this a generic description ? Only seen it used by Fender so far.

And yes, I like that colour ! Have used it on a few units as well, nicely matches my Fndr.

Nice unit you got there.

Bye,

Peter

very sexy. I like the 'broadcast' look. it reminds me of working at the radio station.

did you really build this for $150 bucks? is that possible?

when i add up the cost of the lundahl, the sifam, the PCB, and the torroid, I'm almost at $150! :) Good jorb!

super stuff and the proof that DIY can save some serious buck!!

Great work, thank for posting this. :thumb:

i don't think sea foam green is a generic description.. I just had fender colours on the brain.. im diy-ing a jazzmaster and had narrowed it down to sea foam green and shoreline gold. I went with the gold :D

There's prolly some old cars that had sea foam green paint jobs, didnt fender just use what ever car paint was available back in the 1950's.

Funny you mention a Jazzmaster, it's exactly how I first heard about this colour. While my JM doesn't seem to be an original sea foam green (it has a regular non-coloured headstock) it is that colour (if they did it right).

That's what I read yes, just being very pragmatic & keep the business going.
Keep us posted if you have pics of your DIY-JM. There's electronics in it, so will qualify as valid DIY here

Bye,

Peter
