Our dear friend @ruairioflaherty (though he’s been scarce around the forum in recent years) has lost everything in the Eaton wildfire in Altadena

Such a dear man with a lovely family—including two daughters who now have no house or possessions

He would never ask on his own behalf, so a friend has established a gofundme campaign to help get them back on their feet in this devastating time

I’d loved to have posted this in a higher-traffic forum, as I know not everyone reads this subforum (I rarely visit myself) but I want to respect forum rules

If the moderators seem it appropriate to move to a higher-visibility location I’d certainly welcome and appreciate that.

Here is the link to the campaign

(PS, my own home has thus far been spared, and I’m crossing my fingers the winds don’t pick back up too much)

Thanks everyone

Oh, that's really sad news.

Ruairi is an great person, always very helpful to me personally.
He is an amazing Mastering engineer and was always kind enough to help me out when I had mastering doubts and need some tips for my career.
I'm really sad this happened to him and to his family.

Thanks for sharing the campaign, https://gofund.me/25b2c05f
I will contribute

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the kind words. We are safe and we're gonna be ok.

My girls are doing remarkably well and we are moving to new temporary accommodation for the next month or so tomorrow. People have been amazing and helpful. All of our efforts now are on finding a new rental home in what is a very tough market.

Pic below is all that is left. For the DIY nerds I lost a metric ton of test gear (3 x scopes, LCR, 3 x Sig Gen, Prism dScope, 4 x bench multimeters) and electronic parts as well as 7 guitars, amps, power amps, speakers, lots of outboard. I wonder if the W111C are in the rubble somewhere, they feel like the kind of thing that survives the apocalypse.

People have survived and thrived after far worse. On we go.

Glad to hear you are safe, and that your family is doing well.

Hi Ruairi,
glad to know that you and your family are safe and wish you find a rental home soon so you and your family can start to rebuild a new home and life.

How do the housing insurances work over there?
Do they cover fires?

Wish you all good and strength to overcome this

When you are ready, please send or post a list of tech gear / tools you need replaced to get back in action and where to ship it to.
Thanks for doing this soapfoot

Thanks Niels.

Honestly, in the last 4 years my Mastering work has been something of a rocket ship and now takes every waking minute of my time that I'm not with family. In 2024 I had #1 singles and albums with both Sabrina Carpenter and Kendrick Lamar and we're off to the Grammys with several nominations. The universe works in very strange ways indeed and I feel very blessed!

All that to say I'm not sure I'll have the time this decade to dive back into electronics although I still love to read and study for relaxation. But who knows what comes next, either way I appreciate your kind offer.

Cheers,
Ruairi

Donated. Ruairi, what a devastation. So sorry to see that, and all the destruction over there in LA. I'm glad you and your family are OK, and I'm sure things will turn out good.

Thanks Jaakko,

My girls and wife are safe, things have already turned out good.

Now just a lot of practical work to get on with.

Cheers,
Ruairi

It's great that you and your family are safe and I really praise your positive attitude towards a difficult situation.

I will be in LA next week from the 22nd to the 28th, please let me know how can I help.
