I was in friday at university deadchamber, after three years.
And everyhing changes here.
Bruel and Kjaer heterodynes are not performing and
only PULSE system is here.
Peoples, whose uses it, use it as text file {raw float vaw} writer and texts computes in MATLAB.
But I want more. I want to perform trivial log sweeped sine for
magnitude characteristics measurement.
Exactly what was done with Bruel paper registrator.
I have clicked for two hour by clicking with mouse and I get only
sweep sine. And with no time - level registration.
Peoples, who programmed PULSE possibly read the some Heyser as I,
why PULSE is not for me intuitive? Can someone here help me ?

I've never seen a working B&K BFO, though I know what it is.

Fix the B&K. It may be "obsolete", but it is the perfect tool for what you are doing.

I know roughly what MATLAB is, but I don't know "PULSE" at all. MATLAB is all-powerful, which means simple things are hard. All you want is an AC voltmeter, a sweep-tone, preferably log-frequency, preferably synced with the pen-recorder (which probably doesn't work). The B&K did that perfectly, and probably isn't very sick.

There is low-price audio software to generate a sweep and record the output voltage. Can you run that in the lab?

"deadchamber" = anechoic chamber

"Bruel and Kjaer heterodyne" = in the US, we usually call this type of oscillator a "BFO", Beat Frequency Oscillator. Except radios use "BFO" for the attachment that lets you hear Morse Code clearly, so it would be an Audio BFO. Or since B&K was the main supplier of the nifty sweep-tone with chain connection to pen recorder, and not many other B&K products were used here, just "the B&K".

PRR, you are right, but everything changes in Bruels where
PULSE goes to the market. There are other types of conectors,
newer microphones with encapsulated calibration, preamps.
It is not simple plug BFO (=heterodyn) and play.
Yes, simple BFO and registrator is for my work best, but
University dead chamber have now fixed instalation of PULSE,
price of this instalation was $ 100 000 order and everyone must
use it. ... . And I so.
And I want only know, how to "degrade" pulse to simple BFO with
registrator.
I like "obsolette" tools to work with, because it is pretty fast, without
programming and mouse clicking.
But this I can do only in my bedroom.
