Putting mic inputs on Dsub? Crosstalk?

Well - don't quote me on this - but i would think crosstalk would be a bigger problem on higher level signals like line level.
It may be an issue if you have a really hot signal adjacent to a really low signal....but other than that?

Edit: i'm assuming you are using individual screened pairs in the 8 way cable - or even if you use  ribbon d--subs - if the pinout is correct, each hot/cold pair should have a screen either side in the ribbon.

I've seen many edac/harting pinouts on pro consoles that have a common screen and hot next to adjacent hot pinouts without any noticeable crosstalk at mic and line levels!

Hi!
Would there be a reason not to put mic preamp inputs on Dsub connectors?
Thanks

Should be OK as long as wires are shielded up to and from, and connecter is mainly used for semi-permanaet instals. Also do not common any leads, even if all pin 1s end up in same place.

A pin sequence of 123,123,123 will place a 0V (pin 1) between each pair of hots.

I wouldn't trust DSUB for live use and many insertions. They were pretty popular for -10dBV studio snakes albeit not at mic levels.

Real console multi-pins are pretty expensive so it sounds worth a try if on a budget.

Thanks!
I just realised my friend's ULN8 has mic inputs on Dsubs and it's fine.
My concern is about space trying to fit at least 8 preamps in 1RU and all connections at the rear.
I could use edacs...

I'm in the process of making a d-sub patchbay! I'm getting into surround mixing and want to be able to switch connections in banks of 8.
I am going to use ribbon based d cons and then buy a bucket load of PORT SAVERS - they cost about £1 each in quantity - just cover your sockes in these and then bin them when they get unreliable and put a fresh set on!
