Hi Guys,

I am playing with rotary encoders and using this circuit, with this rotary encoder from RS  http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/products/6928468/?searchTerm=692-8468&relevancy-data=636F3D3126696E3D4931384E525353746F636B4E756D6265724D504E266C753D656E266D6D3D6D61746368616C6C26706D3D5E5C647B337D5B5C732D2F255C2E5D5C647B332C347D2426706F3D313426736E3D592673743D52535F53544F434B5F4E554D424552267573743D3639322D383436382677633D4E4F4E4526

So i have built the circuit as is in the drawing.

The problem is the output from the D-type is pulsing with a turn in either direction, where it should be either high turning in one direction or low turning in the other.

Has any one got any advice on perhaps how to do it in a better way? Am i using the correct type of encode?

Pete

14490 is a rip off.

Sorry, I know that sounds harsh, but for the function is does - it could be done in a $0.50 microcontroller, plus a lot more.

There's buckets of code for dealing with rotary encoders too.

Indeed - after seeing the price of a 14490 I have now got some code in a pic working just fine...

If you told me you were controlling it from a micro I would have told you to de-bounce it in the code.  But good to see it is working.

ahh well it changed along the way you see, at the time of posting I thought the above circuit would interface with my PIC, but then when I looked into it further it turns out you can attach the rotary direct..genius!

I am only just getting into programming but it is awesome, the amount of flexibility it gives is fab..

Ill post up my project when im a bit further down the line..

thanks Men, good to know I can call on you guys if needed..

are you familular with PICAXE at all?

Pete
