Hello all,

1st post but I've been learning a lot from the forum for a few months now. I've got a V72 build up and functioning (DRIP pcb) and would love to know just how low of output should be expected. If I plug a dynamic mic in, I have to flick the grill to get any blip on my converter meters (Symphony). I built in a DI (straight to grid) and a passive bass gets the meters on the converter to peak if I play hard, so that seems good.

Should the dynamic mic be so low output? Just trying to see if I need to trouble shoot or if this is normal. I have a condenser but haven't built in the phantom power yet to try it.

Thanks,

Marty

Gain of a stock V72 is about 35dB, what is on low side for a dynamic mic, but if the sound level of the source is high, it should be adequate to drive input of converter, IMO. Anyway,  you can check your preamp's gain using a DMM or a converter.

Thanks for the tip. With a test tone I am getting only 3 dB of gain. The DI gives closer to 30 dB. Will try to chase down the culprit.
