Hi,

do you know a Tube Expert in Europe?
I have a GATES SA-39B Peak Limiting Amplifier that needs to be fixed (fumes were coming out of the small internal tranfo and the 5V4 bulb became very hot), but since it's a very heavy unit, it would be better to find someone in Europe to do this (we are located near Brussels)...
We double checked, so it wasn't the wrong voltage.

The unit has been spec'd and checked by Blackie at Tubesville.com before, and was in working condition.
Gyraf told me to contact ICP Studios to get the name of the person that repairs their Fairchild, but it seems that they are not willing to share their secrets...

Thanks a lot,

Raf R.

Raf R,

The hot 5V4 bulb, this is probably the rectifier tube for the high volt (tube anode/plate voltage)
You say there are smoke from a small internal transformer, I think it can be the choke you mean, and this is usually connected direct after the rectifier tube with a electrolytic capacitor connected in each side of the choke to ground.

I will guess you have a fault in the elecrolytic capasitors that is connected after the choke. (or some other capasitor later in the anode/plate voltage rail)

I' m used to repair these machines.
I repaired 7 of them from last summer.
I' m in France.
If you can send me the unit, I can do something.
This is a great stuff !
