Has anyone used the THAT 300 series? They don't appear to offer very high hFE - so hardly a drop-in replacement for the 394. Has anyone seen the THAT in commercial products? They've been around for a while now...I'm intrigued.

As an alternative, you could do a small pcb with a BCM847bs smt transistor, should you ever encounter a dual pnp, BCM857bs could be used. There's a matched dual 3904 too, but i don't recall the full type#.

Hi Chaps

If anyone is still looking for 394's this link might be useful:

It's nice to know that some of the "Soviet Union era" devices are still in manufacture. I've ordered a few and will test a few when they arrive.

Cheers

Thank you for info. I'll try to find out if Russian analog (159НТ1)  is still available.
Couldn't find english version of datasheet but russian one says that AS194,AS394 is enhanced version of soviet 159НТ1, К159НТ1, КР159НТ1

I'm thinking about getting more info amongst russian community and purchasing some of them for my store...

Why bother with replica parts when you can get the real thing.  I still have a decent stash of original LM394's. $3.50 ea. plus shipping.
