Definately worth to try - i'm using different plate resistors for different designs.
There's no other tube which exactly fit the specs of AC701 or AC761.
Focusing only to get the same voltages as schematic shows will not give you proper response.
Optimising bias by cathode and plate resistors values you are able to get similar response.
There's was nothing magic in AC701 (despite that all tube and mike speculants will sell whole ******** theory for the price) just it had own specs for which the circuit was optimised - nothing more, nothing less.
