I have this old 415 mic that makes only a loud hiss when connected. I was wondering if it would be ok to use a mic like a Mxl 603
to test the capsule of the 415.
Yes, thanks i knew that, but may be someone before me didn't and connected it to 48V. If i disconnect the capsule i still get the same hiss from the head amp.
Sometimes T powered mics are rewired to work with the opposite polarity (something to do with how Nagras were powered).
I'm not sure that the 416 capsule will work with another mic, the 416 uses a high frequency oscillator to sense the capsules capacitance, not a polarising voltage.
Most likely cause of problems in old mics are failed electrolytic capacitors.
i used a sound devices 442 set to T power to try the mic so it should be ok as far as powering . I'll check the electrolytic caps.
Thanks for the capsule info
