I am making some new ables for my sub which are unbalanced lines. I bought some hefty RCA cables and snipped one side. Inside is a twisetd pair of red & white oxygen free wite, and a third bare piece of silver stranded wire.
There is also a foil shield over all of them.
The red and white wires are not inside the stranded silver wire, they are twisted along with it. It seems as though they made an unbalance cable from wire suitable for balanced lines.
So should I tie the extra silver strand to ground? Or should I just leave it be. It is NOT connected to hot OR ground on the side I left the RCAs on. It was connected to ground on the RCAs I snipped off. I guess this is what makes the cable directional?
Thanks!
Shane
