The Shure UC4 is powered by a wall wart rated at
600 mA x 15 V
and I was wondering if it would be possible to power it with a couple of 9v batteries.
Would the batteries drain very fast? there is a similar receiver UP4 that is powered by a single 9V battery

No, the specs for the UC4 do say a max of 600mA so at that rate 9 volt batteries wouldn't be capable enough.
You could use 11 D cell batteries, but they would still only last about 5 hours before dropping below the minimum required voltage of 12.5.
Would also be very expensive.

The 800mAh ones would only last just over an hour if the unit does actually draw 600mA. I would be very sceptical of the ones saying they are 2300mAh from the same physical size battery! But even if they are good, you would still only have 3-4 hours use from a charge, and probably less.
