For the lack of this capsule that @kingkorg reccomends
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006064243335.html

I bought this one (prompted by @pasarski recommendation)
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006970192646.html

I paired it with OPIC circuit by @rogs .
At first I planned to buid it the way real men do - rogs' way - on stripboard. But it lost, pricewise, to Mic Sharf's pcb. 5 USD for 10 boards is hard to beat. Sorry, @rogs 😉
Beautifully simple circuit, the build was a breeze.

The effect is spectacular - this thing is quiet. Like really quiet. The most scientific trial I could quickly run: quiet night and DR-70D turned all way up, +63dB, all I could hear was distant hum of traffic.
And leaves falling from trees...
On par with AOM 5024. Not that sensitive of course.

Sure, not as ambitious a build as a tube mic but this is what I wanted - a quiet, cardioid electret mic.
We'll see how cardioid it really is.

BTW the pcb fits the BM-800 body. I'm not a fan but well... If it works it's good 😉

Due to budget constraints I've been considering this build for a while.
I'll probably go with some spare stripboard I've got in my stash.
How did you mount the 25mm capsule?
Cheers

It's worth it even if you're filthy rich 😉

Really do consider ordering the boards from PCBWay (link on the OPIC site). They're very well made and populating them is a breeze.
5 USD for 10 boards? C'mon! What would this be? 3 quid? 😉
Just pay attention - the default quantity is 5 pcs (same price!)And the default shipment method is pricey (UPS, DHL or smth)
I chose mail. Took two weeks to arrive. But for 3,50 - not 25 USD.

I just cut the existing capsule holder (some shitty polistyrene), left a "half-moon" and used two-sided thick rubber tape.

Will add rubber spacers between the holder and the frame to (hopefully) diminish the handling noise.

Do that capsule a favor and put a BM700 head grill on it; the slanted shape is more neutral than the cylindrical.

The M 49 / U 67/87 didn't have that shape for no reason.
