I'm looking to build a fairly quick 'n' easy stereo comp to use between my TV and power amp for late night movie watching. After the kid is asleep my wife and I watch movies, and sometimes they are too dynamic which means putting on closed captioning and missing out on some dialogue.  Years back I was using an old Alesis 3630 and that worked well, but I no longer have that.

Sure, I can buy something off the shelf fairly cheap, but I haven't built a personal project in months and want something to build. Thank you in advance!

One solution could be a no-frills THAT4301-based thingie like this one:

But sourcing parts, adding power supply, putting in a case -- gosh, all that time... and all the two of you wanted was to watch some movies  ;)

So why not the cookie-cutter Bawlshrinker from Evilbay?

Here You go, this was made for your app back in 1954:-
