Just by accident, I found this video on youtube.
In fact it is a very simple diode bridge compressor.
It looks interesting enough to experiment with this circuit.

Later there was an 'improved version'

IMHO opinion interesting enough to experiment with on a rainy day...

Have you simulated It... Or are you waiting for a rainy Day to build and so test It in real time ?
I like the simple solution for compression metering
Best

Here Is my Diode Comp 500 proto... I m going to set 2boards in a stereo unit...
Cause of the space only one set of controls with separate detectors and sd39 single vu Meter... Also still testing a vca made of 16 diodes.
As i get time i Will build this Erica synth version
Just to compare different designs...

There seems to be everything to constitute a decent diode compressor.
As always the devil is in the details. I would use a full-wave rectifier in the side-chain though.

just an attempt with few mods ... was very curious so had to simulate it..
is this doable?
the wave out and detector also looks fine
is it a good practice adding coupling capacitors between stages respect to the original design?
i m not so expert to judge on my own
thanks for your attention
best
