Another option for high quality, but probably not class A, the API 8200 line mixer, with or without the 7800 master module. You didn't specify if you are looking for a full featured (mic preamps and EQ) mixer or something to use with existing outboard gear (a line mixer).

Which recorder did you get?

I guess Im looking for a line mixer . I have a couple of hardy pres and some ADM pres . The deck is an ampex 440c 8 track . I have a 440 c 4track that I have worked on so I know how to play with the 8 . This is all "labor of love" crap and Im not hell bent on anything . I know there are some small neves out there and other **** , but im just kinda looking for some Ideas in the realm of small boards. I love analog and Im slowly groping along on buiding my little basement dream , pissing off my girlfriend .
any ideas are great

I second that Studer, for rock and roll at least. If you go to www.louisxiv.net you can hear some rock stuff recorded and mixed to and from Pro tools HD. Theres a great stereo buss compressor on if you like getting some overall crunch out of your mix.
