How are things looking as far as a timeline for the K87’s? I pre-ordered a pair in early January.
The capsules are totally done but there was that spacer squish issue. The film batch for this batch was different and out of spec and that caused them to deform over time. They passed QC but "settled" out of spec later. The vent sizes are inconsistent after the spacers squish which is causing variable bass rolloff, though none of them more than 2dB. About 0.7dB on average. I think it'll take about 3 weeks to fix this. I'm just going to be having the die shop cut new spacers and send them directly to me and swap them all out here. My disability makes some things difficult but not so difficult that I couldn't fix an issue like this. If you're using them in a u67, I could ship them now. you could probably get away with just taping the vent closed.

If I get more money than expected between now and 3 weeks I'll just do a whole new batch and replace the spacers in this existing batch at a more relaxed pace.

There isn’t a rush. I’d rather have them finished in top form than rush it and end up having to tape something together. My transformers for the 2 67’s and 2 87’s I ordered your capsules for got stolen in the mail unexpectedly so it will not be until late March that I’ll have the replacements anyway. Was just curious about the timeline. Thanks for your response. Good luck with the repairs.

I'm sorry to hear that! What transformers were they?

Newsletter subscription verification emails are getting caught by my outgoing spam filter due to the language used in them. LOL. Fixing the policy.
Nope! The whole point of the flat k47 is to be highly accessible. I will sell them this cheap until it becomes a problem for me. I don't expect there to be huge volumes b stock capsules, so it's not a big deal. These b stock capsules vary from having essentially nothing wrong with them at all to having one perfectly working side as the worst case scenario, so if you're using them for cardioid there's no reason not to save money

I used an Arienne Audio b-stock flat k47 to repair a broken Oktava Mk219 (the capsule was broken upon arrival when I ordered the microphone) and it's performing superbly. Wonderful sound, pairs very nicely with the circuit too in my opinion. Gorgeous, rich, smooth sound. I also remade the headbasket to be more open. Picture attached.

Actually now you mention it a single sided , flat 47 sounds like a great replacement for the Oktava capsule ,
MKL 2500 CF ,with a few psu tweaks works wonders for me on certain sources ,
it doesnt sound over polished like a Neumann and many modern LDC mics ,
more understated ,

The 219 capsule is an interesting one, favoring certain things quite a bit and being very papery and overly aggressive in the midrange on others. Great guitar amplifier microphone for certain tones imo. I like it, very rich character. It sounds to me, in a lot of ways, like an exaggerated take on a vintage Neumann with a particularly colorful midrange. Granted, I have not compared the sound with the resonant disc and without.

I expected the circuit to be on the dark side when pairing with a more balanced capsule, but it presents the details beautifully and doesn't seem overly resonant in any particular area. Buying an Oktava and throwing a flat k47 is a pretty economical way to get a very nice, smooth in a vintage way sounding microphone.
