Hi folks,
here are some pictures of my recent and (almost) finished projects. The two 1176 still need frontplate labeling. Output TX are old Telefunken 1:2 trannies from dolby A 360 units. They sound fantastic (pure 70s style).

The two Pultecs I'm working on right now haven't got their final frontplate yet, but one can guess what it is going to be  Still waiting for the new frontplates. Their is absolutly no hum, hiss or noise of any kind, nothing else than silence and fantastic EQing. The wiring of the OEP output tx is a real brain teaser. Still haven't managed to wire it correctly :? All cases except the GSSL's are recovered from old stuff (MXR Delays and Klein & Hummel Power Amps)

Well, and finally a nice Mic Preamp

 Yes, one of the power trannies used to supply a door bell in its former life.

Dont worry about the tranny, thats proper diy if you ask me.
Use what you got. :thumb:

Looks good.

Looks great!

PS: I'm building a pre for a friend using a power tranny I pulled from an old radio that was on the side of the road .... headed for the dump....

Hi,
well, thx a lot for your kind words. When I started the pultecs, I thought that the "non torroid" transformers would cause some trouble (hum, noise), but in fact there is nothing at all. The metal shielding between trannies and main board seems to be quite effective. The filter board is installed behind a metal plate, so that hum isn't a problem at all. The sound of the 1176 is really superb. I recommend to read the last chapter of the original manual. From my point of view and from first tests with my 1176s on vocal tracks I can underline each single comment famous producers give on the sound quality of the 1176.
Happy reading
Bernd

Bernd, nice stuff!

I am building a G-Pultec with OEP out as well, but have a bug in there somewhere, it passes only (very high) frequencies. Maybe I got the OEP hooked up incorrectly, will check on that... did you test the Pultec with makeup amp and without Output trafo, is it possible to do that?

cheers, Marten

hi Marten,
yes, you can test the pultec without input/output transformer. Simply connect pin 2 with pin 7 on the pcb as shown in the picture below.

I also don't exactly know how to connect the OEP. Jacob said:

Yes the A2E can be wired 600:600 (primaries in series, secondaries in parallel) and is useable for Pultec input transformer

Others in the forum used the A2E both, as input and output transformer, but I don't know exactly how to wire the transformer (since I'm a musician and an absolute newbie concerning electronics)

regards
Bernd
