I would love to have 3 or 4 Josephson e22s, but would be curious if there would be a way to DIY something even close?

Small diaphragm condensers are a little harder to source then there larger siblings. But you could build one for sure. Getting the sound quality of a Josephson designed and built mic not as easy! Also the side address factor cardioid issue is part of the design problem of course.

You can buy capsules from SE and RODE fairly easily at most online retailers. But all of there product is designed for end address designs.

Hey thanks for the reply! I will look into the capsule idea. I was thinking his circuit design was based on a 451.  I am not that concerned with them to be side address. Just thinking if it were possible to get the nice open sound they have, but not so bright like 451s. So great on electric guitar cabs..

Use a KM84 circuit, buy a sdc and turn it on it's side. The delay network is set at the capsule and should work as it is.

Love the idea. If you have any suggestions for SDC mics with good capsules I'd be interested to hear them.

I really like JZ BT201 capsules.
Sometimes they can be found separately on auctions.
BT201 are my favourite sdc microphones.
I had choice to bought them or km84 and i choosed BT201.
