Hi all,
i recently purchased a used Soundcraft Series Two console and everything else is working as should but channel 5 seems to be partly dead.
I can get signal to the channel via the return of the insert point, but no luck with Mic and Line inputs. Direct outputs and aux sends on that channel work also. So its just the mic/line inputs.

Whre should i start looking at possible problems?

I would start exactly where you can get a signal through - at the insert socket.

have you tested this insert socket to ensure its switching OK? give the contacts a clean.

Console is made in 2006.
Attatched is the only info i have, its block diagram from the manual.

I have no equipment to power the channel strip outside the console

Problem solved. Fortunately it was a bad contact inside the insert socket. After cleaning, it started passing a signal and once jumped it stopped sounding distorted.

For now, everything allright. But while thinking of ever selling this desk in the future it needs to be properly fixed, maybe replace the jack.

Anyone ever taken this console apart?

Ok so now the console is giving me more bad behaviour with the same channel...

The gain drops randomly like -20dB and the channel sounds distorted. The channel usually works allright for an hour and then out of nowhere it just drops off.  The problem gets fixed by wiggling the gain pot a bit. After this, the channels behaviour is super unconsistent. It comes and goes.

Can anyone help me?

Sounds like you need a new gain pot.
