Hi, I'm having a hard time finding a 7 pin male xlr insert for a royer/ g9 build in a mxl 2001 body. Anyone have anything laying around or a part source?

I found a good tip on here when researching a similar build. Get a Switchcraft 7 pin panel mount connector and swap the insert with the 3 pin in your donor mic. Now you have a 3 pin panel mount connector for your power supply, and a 7 pin insert in your mic.

This worked perfectly for me and is also cost effective. I wish I could remember what thread this was in or who said it. It was one of the many brilliant minds around here though.

Switchcraft D7MBAU - gold pin
Switchcraft D7M - silver pin

Thanks for the panel connector idea.  I have never been able to find the 7 pin insert available separately and a lot of people ask about it.

I am listing Chinese 7 pin connectors as a loose part soon on my site as well, but I like the idea of higher quality plastic and pin materials.

I chose to go with the "official" standard (and way cheaper) ones. As per ln76d's indication, the insert in the Neutrik NCxMP series is a perfect fit ;)

Just be aware, the standard / Neutrik ones are NOT compatible with the Switchcraft type ones - the pin layout IS identical, but the keying ridge its 10-20 degrees off.

Make some clarification ;)

6pin?
7pin?
5pin?
Or all of it?
From what i know, that only 6pin isn't compatible...

Oops - it seems you're right, my bad :(

Indeed, only the 6-pin version is different, as it turns out...
