Keith would know this, most likely. Is it possible to run a 48 Channel 6000 console via a single console PSU? My understanding is no and that the ssl psu's of that era were able to run 36 channels + mastering section. Any frame over36 channels would have had 2 X console supplies plus the computer supply and other computer related paraphernalia.

When we bought our first SSL 4K, Piers told me that one PS was OK for the 32 channels we had (48 frame), but if we filled another bucket, we needed two, and a changeover.
We expanded out to 56 channels (64 frame) and with 2 PS, they draw about 11.5A each off of 120V.

IIRC a single PSU  for the 4K/6K would be able to handle max 36 channels and master section.  which I realize I mentioned already. Since the console in question is 48 channel frame and full 48 channels I do not see how they are able to run off a single PSU even if it is wired  for 240. I was contacted to go  do some work on it and it's way upstate so I am thinking the problems they are having are due to being under powered

Back in the day SSL had no probs selling 4048 G's in the states with only one supply #uniquerecording qty 2 as one example. Quad had at least one also.  SSL also had no problem selling replacement supplies for said sold consoles that blew up the supplies a few hot years later.
Unique later had a second-hand 6048 on one supply, but she was onla a wee lass in 1989.  All desks got up-bucketed and double supplied by '90.

So it's possible with the right cooling.  25 years ago.  Subtract for old caps, MTBF, quarter century tick-tockin' I would say no. Pulling two buckets of modules and testing stability should verify.

Ps: we lived and died by the HVAC there. . .

The original SSL 661 PSU was 20A, this was upgraded to 25A, I've seen 46 channels + centre going ok, on a single 25A supply, and it was very happy.

The SSL 661J (Japan) PSU with two power outlets, capable of running a 56 channel console on the single supply, amazingly it has a changeover built in, so you can gang the supplies like batteries to power very large configurations.

Just seeing this now,

We bought our first E-series in 1984, and it was a 4048. -It was delivered with ONE power supply.

Now, would I try to run 48 channels nowadays from a thirty-year-old power supply? Not on your life.

But... if you want, I know someone who is selling a power supply or two, AND a changeover unit.
