Hi,
I am starting to order the components for this build. I'm following KEV's BOM

http://www.gyraf.dk/gy_pd/ssl/parts.html

and also referencing Greg's BOM for more detailed descriptions of the components i need to buy...
http://members.cox.net/capstanrecording/SSLCloneParts.pdf

As my guid build i will try and follow Rolands build diary
http://gssl.rolandklinkenberg.com/english/index.html

I am taking baby steps and have just completed my list of suppliers, prices, etc for all the Semiconductors from the BOM. However, there a few components that after much searching seem to be obselete or not stocked any more with all of the suppliers i'm dealing with...the items i can't get are listed below

Fairchild semiconductor  TL074 (LF347)
http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?WT.z_header=search_go&lang=en&site=ie&keywords=LF347NFS-ND&x=13&y=11

IN4148 Silicon Diode
http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=1N4148MSCT-ND

Regulator 79L12
http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?WT.z_header=search_go&lang=en&site=ie&keywords=AN79L12-ND&x=13&y=20

I'd really appreciate if somebody could recommend suitable replacements for these parts...

Also, i'd appreciate if someone could confirm that this is the correct VCA

Thanks in advance for any help

hey hally.. here we are again!

At what pace are you planning to work on this? I am thinking about starting with you, however this month is a little packed already. I could start ordering stuff, but I don't know when I will be able to start soldering.
Cheers!
Czyb

PS: I was wondering if you have any pictures of your self-built studio on the web. Curious!

Thanks gemini86 and for the links

gemini86, Just to be 100% clear, the link u provided me

here's your neg 12v reg.

http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=LM320LZ-12-ND

is for the Regulator 79L12?

Hi czybulski,
I'm pretty busy this month also but i'll dedicate a bit of time a few evenings a week to this project. The plan is to compile my list of materials and suppliers first and I supose take it from there. It would be good to work together on this and bounce off each other, i suspect u know more about the subject than i do so be patient with me. The problem i am finding already is some of the components listed in the BOM are obselete so i need advise from the forum members as to suitable replacements, this is gonna take a bit of time to complete...

I don't have a full build diary anywhere on the web but if u do a search over @ john sayers site u'll find a posts where i was looking for advise regarding design and specific details of the build, do a search for posts started by hally, if u can't find them let me know and i'll post direct links

thanks

hally

That was quick
Thanks for clarifing,
i'll move on to compiling my list for Resistors

Hi all,

What knobs are these, does anyone have a manufacturers code for them

meterenknoppen.jpg

and THESE push buttons -

pushbutton1.jpg

thanks

hally

Thanks Neil,

As far as the push buttons go i have found out they are EAO series 01 illuminated push-button but i can't find series 01 in any of the suppliers sites. I found a forum post saying

You want 01.281.025. That is the one that SSL use.
But be aware it is a one pole changeover switch. If you are using it with the Super Sidechain board then fine, but if not then you would need a 2 pole changeover switch and maybe even another pole for the LED (or lamp).
EAO also do another version of this switch that will work fine:
01.281.0252
It's a bit cheaper. I think because it has silver contacts rather than gold.

I will be using the GSSL TurboPCB so i need either the 01.281.025 or 01.281.0252 push button swich - does anyone have any info, links to these buttons or have EAO released the same type button under a different name...

any help on this will be much appreciated...

thanks
hally

Hi pucho812,
checked newark which is farnell here in europe and they do have these switches  :)

http://uk.farnell.com/eao/01-281-025/switch-pushbutton-dpst-1no-1nc/dp/4527999

£21 a shot is gonna get expensive
The EAO brochure states that
The flat lenses, made of polymethyl methacrylate, are obtainable in
various colours, as well as translucent or transparent.

In keeping with the original model by SSL am i after translucent or transparent?

One thing i'm a bit confused about - in his build diary, roland has a caption under the photos of these switches saying

"On the left: push-button, on the right: lamp holder"
pushbutton1.jpg

Can someone explain whats going on here - are there not just two switches in this photo - what does he mean lamp holder?

sorry for the dumb question!

thanks
hally

I don't know about all your questions....but I do know that the switch on the left have the blue part thats a switch and the lamp on the right, is just that a lamp. If you can look really close, there is only 2 extruding solder points. For voltage to a lamp.

Cheers!

Ok so the item on the left is a switch which contains a lamp and the item on the right is just a lamp which leads me to my next question

On Rolands model he has three of these switches -

1 for Compressor (on/ off)

1 for sidechain in

1 for sidechain listen

why would he need just a lamp on its own?

ah, the penny has dropped, maybe the switch comes in two parts, the illumination/ lamp part (on right of photo) and the full component, lamp & switch which fit together, the switch fitting on to the rear of the lamp (on the left of photo)

does this make sence?

thanks
hally

Yes...lots of questions. Kinda a lot to take in all at once. Datasheets are you friends. Parts come in a mind boggling array!

http://datasheet.octopart.com/01-281.025-EAO-Switch-datasheet-8459523.pdf

Good luck!

Hally,  Roland here...don't mind the lamp holder. I bought it by mistake ;-).
Also, when not confident, build a stock unit. Don't include things like side chain listen and such.
Make the stock unit work but don't do the frontpanel yet.
When the stock unit works you can add things like I did and finally make a front panel.

Also, my gssl clone page is just a description of my first DIY steps and certainly NOT a guide to follow.
You can find fare more and more recent info in the gssl help thread on this forum.

And yes, before you ask,  the sifam meter in the picture is discontinued. ....
