Back on the SC1100 mods...

Today, I replaced the original mounting saddle by a custom one (that I've already presented earlier in this thread).
I did this mounting mod because Ari doesn't fit the original SC1100 saddle and also because it's now possible to center vertically the capsule in the head basket. As I did, the caps. is ~1cm down and centered.

I used Arienne K47 saddle (because Arienne will be installed later in this pair) but with an Ali Express capsule which will be tested compared to SC1100 original then to Ari K47flat.

For those interested, I post some picts and a schematic of how I did with plastic & metal spacers, an adhesive foam disk and 3mm screw + nut. The 2 plastic spacers allow to "compensate" the hole in the middle and so to offer a solid base. It allows to center the saddle too.
I can give the links to the different parts for this mod (Ali Express).

When I plugged the mic > no sound... I searched... and then realized that the backplate was maybe in contact with the head of the screw (and so with ground). That was it ! so not forget to put a piece of isolant (electrician tape for ex.) between the saddle and the capsule

So audio tests to come :

1) original SC1100 capsule in Mic 1 vs Ali Express capsule (sold as a K47...) in Mic 2
2) Ali capsule in Mic 2 vs Arienne K47 flat in Mic 1
And then put the second Ari K47f in the Mic 2 to get a nice pair

As I planned here are 2 tracks of voiceover + acoustic guitar (steel strings) recorded with my SC1100 pair.
One with original capsule and the other with an Ali Express one sold as "K47". I have to admit that the Ali is quite interesting, well balanced for my taste, and that the original t.bone capsule is way too bright. They have been recorded thru a XR18 Behringer in which you can visualize the input levels. On voiceover, the original t.bone set to +30dB and the Ali to +36dB, so the Ali needs +6dB compare to t.bone original to get the same recording level. Voiceover ~30cm from the mics. Guitar ~1m from the mics. Cardio mode only.

I find that the Ali is much better on the voiceover : it perhaps lacks a little brilliance on the acoustic guitar but this can be corrected with an EQ (I added a high-pass +4dB from 2,5kHz and it is fine) and since you have to choose... I opt for the Ali.

I will install the two Arienne K47flat in my SC1100 pair to stay there and try this AliExpress K47 in my sE2300 which suffers from the same (and most recurrent) weakness : too bright and thin sound

I was expecting the Ali capsule to have more midrange, but strangely, it seems to be the opposite. To me, the Ali also has a bit more low end.
Maybe they’re just unpredictable and inconsistent.

Hu ? I adjust the playback level by a 1dB or so for listeners not to be spoiled

I should listen back to the tracks... but for 38€ ship. included I have to say it's really a good (chinese) capsule !

Maybe... they can't provide a real manufacturer's quality on each piece I guess
