Tamura 600:600

OK, it's been a while since I hacked one, no wonder I haven't felt right lately.

This is the first Tamura I have hacked.

This is a real good transformer. Reminds me of an LS series.

30 henries pri
30 henries sec

24 ohms dcr from split windings of 12 ea. for pri.
same for sec.

flat from dc to 50 K.

res at 300 K:

This has gotta be super perm, ultra low core loss as shown by the B-H:

OK, the guts! Drill out the pem nuts to get the lid off:

Silicone sleaving over the magnet wire, so no splices.

Weird. The paper wrapper expanded due to heat from the potting compound and formed a big air pocket.

I body slammed the sucker after heating to shake loose the goodies, but no go.
Wanted to save the can if it was mu, but the saw had different plans.

Best nickel I have seen yet.
L lams. Not in the Mag Metals catalog.
Probably stamped in Japan, so metric.
About the same size as LS series L lams.

Bobbin wound. I would have expected layered paper with a transformer of this quality. Better linkage, less leakage.

Each coil is split up between the two bobbins via splices.
245 turns each section, so 490 each coil, and 980 per 600 ohm winding.
0.008 wire = 33 ga.

Poly insulation between sections.

I have a PM2000 input tranny I could send also:
PM2000 is= 300:2.7k
PM1000 is= 1k:3k

& MAYBE a PM2000 output... I think I have one spare.

This PM2000 output tranny is the one I mentioned using in my
API 312/Yamaha thread. They sound very good & seem to be built well.
It would be KILLER to see how good they are... especially since I'm hitting them with a little DC (no output cap, 312 style).

If Mendelt sends the PM1000's, I'll do the PM2000's.
I'm sure I'm not the only one interested in the performance of these.

Jersey is closer than Netherlands, so you guys compare noites and see if hacking the 2000 stuff would supply as much info as hacking the 1000 stuff.
or send them all, i don't care.
just trying tosave postage and hassle.

I would say the inputs are very similar (size & quality) but with different turns.

the outputs...NOT.

Both are 600:600 but the construction is different,
PM2000 is much larger & not in a can.

hey CJ! Nice work!

I've got his brother installed in a Forssell Opto with the Buttachunk make up amp. Also have a switch option to a Quad 8 CA127 for make up. I used to have an Altran c2870 in there... it had a mellow easy going sort of sound that I can easily live with out.

The Tamura is very lively and seems to enhance the hi-mids while all the low and high end is still very much there. It's a fun comp to sing through with the Tamura, because it seems to enhance how you sing and use the mic. I'm going to give it a go on a bass recording one of these days ,I think it will sound very good in that app.

Did you give the Tamura a listen ?

These posts where alot more entertaining back when I could afford to buy transformers. Now they are just painful, and of corse I did not buy transformers when I could afford them, I figured I had enough projects and could buy them when I have more time. At least my winder is just about done, got a good stock pile of wire, just need to scrape up the money for the lams and bobbins. These posts should come in handy soon at least. You get inside any Peerlesses yet?
