BEWARE OF CHEAP IMITATIONS
other companies producing Neve modules & plug-ins are doing so illegally
Neve Outboard equipment is faithfully reproduced to the exacting standards that Neve has employed ever-since the first modules were made, including the original Neve specifications for all components, design, manufacture and test.
Only Neve employs the care and expertise of the original members of the Neve design team to understand exactly what these specifications are.

...-Modelled plug-ins are illegal?

...really???

I'll bet that's why all of his latest stuff is credited to Mr.Rupert Neve....

I didn't know that exacting standards meant having to recap a five year old console three times.

I don't think the modelling on the plug-ins is illegal, but I believe that the appearance of the plug-in can be claimed as property of the original designers. I'm pretty sure that's why unique changed the color scheme of that URS SSL eq plug-in. The first one they had looked just like an E series.

looking at the URS SSL plug-in I cant see how they could get introuble even if the did use the same color scheme... yes it looks like the ssl eq but FFS I had a trident vector sitting here who use the exact same EQ layout including color scheme and it was hardware...

no clue where the line is drawn but I dont think anyone can protect the placement of knobs, switches and colors...

they probably did it above the board... with SSL's permission... obviously if they were using their name... im betting SSL requested the color change even though they had no legal ground to stand on... more than likely it was one of those... if you want to model our stuff... use our name then we get X % from you and we dictate how it can look..

Good point. You're probably right about the money thing, but I'm pretty sure they did it without SSL's direct approval(at least that's the impression I got from my sources..don't want to get anybody in trouble though). Apparently there are some folks you can send stuff out to and have them do the analyzing/modelling and programming. Of course you should take this with a grain of salt, since I'm harldy an authority on this but you know how small this industry is in terms of information getting around.
