I know you guys really only mess around with the more esoteric stuff, but where does Orban fall into the audio eqipment category?

More specifically, the eq, 622b and the stereo compressor, 424a(?)

I'm asking because I came across these pieces awhile ago, but have not had a chance to hook them up.

Anyone in here mod any ORBAN stuff?

Thanks,

(i haven't even got my digikey order for my ssl yet, and I am hopelessly addicted to diy and this forum already.....)

I own both of the units you mention (as well as the 111B dual channel spring reverb) and I'm quite fond of all of them.

Orban gear is built for broadcast use and it is reliable, quality equipment. I'm a broadcast engineer, and every facility I've worked for has contained a number of pieces of Orban equipment in critical "on-air" signal chains.

I'm a big fan of the Orban 418a Stereo Limiter. Awesome on drum subgroups. Very transparent. I'm trying to pry one from my friend's dusty rack.

transparency would be a good sonic attribute IMO. at least for the eq 622b which i happen to know.

As you can see, everyone has a different opinion!

I am of the opinion that there is no such thing as a bad compressor. Sometimes you want something to affect the dynamic range whilst changing the "sound" as little as possible. Sometimes you want to seriously F@@k it up. Some are more useful than others, some are more usable than others. I have esoteric vintage Neves and Pyes, through to cheepo Valley People and Aphex 108's. They all have their place. I love all my babies! now eq;s are a different kettle of fish. A few are great all round, some have specific roles. Even more i wont use at all, given a choice.
My experience with the orban compressors/ dynamics has been a happy one, like most boadcast stuff. i personally don't like the eq's much, but Plenty of competant and succesful people i know love them ,especially as they are failr cheep, and quite well made.
Vive La Differance, I say! - And make your Own Mind UP!

i find that actually owning a piece of gear, especially if it was cheep, can seriously affect your opinion of how good it is. So There!

Enjoy!
