I'm modding an old radio and want to be able to switch input to the power amp from three mono audio sources. I've been looking at, and ordering ineffectively, toggle switches, but I don't think what I want exists.

I think I'm looking for a SP4T switch. 3 audio ins, one out. I don't need an off position. Does that sound right? Where can I find such a switch, or do I need to go another route?

  Thanks!

Rotary switch.

SP4T is easily found in rotary (as 3P4T, $2, ignore excess Ps), possible but awkward in slide (the cheapest "4 postition" slide is not really 4T), almost unheard-of in toggle.

That's actually SP3T. (The "T" goes one of 3 ways.) 3T toggles exist but are very rare. More common is 3 position center-off, which does not fit your requirement.

Thanks a lot. I found this one on Mouser. How do I tell what kind of knobs will fit? I only ask because I've tried ordering knobs before and failed miserably.

  Thanks,

The one you linked to is a 16P3T, if you want to think of it in those terms, because it has 4 decks. Look at the Lorlins  - you want one deck, one pole per deck, and 12 positions - with the Lorlins you can lower the number of positions easily to make it a 1P3T. Alternately you could order a 4P3T and only use one of the poles.

Best,

Ben

Back to the toggle switch...

I think your average telecaster or stratocaster switch will do just the trick! It is usually a SP5T switch, so you will get your "off" position as well, if you really want it.

Technically, the Fender type switches are composed of a rotary deck with a lever that acts as a toggle...
Good tip nonetheless, Tele gives you 3 positions, and Strat = 5

Ok, I think I found a pot that will work. Check this out: http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=R10307RN02Qvirtualkey61170000virtualkey611-R10307RN02Q

Also, in reference to purchasing knobs. On the spec sheet it says that the diameter of the knob is .250, (6,35ø), does this mean that the diameter of the pot is 2.5mm? What does the (6,35ø) mean?
