good topic i'm thinking about it for one of these days...
I never heard one but the Ampex MX35, seems good, and got great reviews...
maybe will it interest you... only power and input transformers for mics inputs so it can be a cheap design,
there is only a little mod to add a pan pot, that would be better than a switch...
