Hi All,

I noticed that most 500 series chassis these days use an external switching power supply - ie. 2-3amps.

Would it be a simple matter of changing the power supply to a higher amperage to increase the power per slots or does the chassis circuit need to be upgraded?

I am presuming that designers must be leaving room in their circuit and PCB design for higher amperage or do you think likely not?

Curious, as I may in the future get into valve modules, which likely takes up 300-400ma per module and the chassis I am considering is about 180ma per slot.

Thank you.

I have made some 500 series racks using Sahibs kits but making 5A PSU's myself. These were for people using 8 Roger Mayer tape sim modules which use a lot of current out of just the + rail. Apart from making sure the regs had adequate cooling so they didn't shut down they worked ok.
