Hmmm I dunno what to tell you Key maybe it's cause you using a PC. But on a mac system focusrite and digirack EQ sound? wait a minute they have no sound it's digital have you ever heard a 1 and 0. but back to the point at hand the original versions of software were exactly the same with just a different faceplate did lots A/B test on this one and many an engineer I know would agreee. Digi's joke to the world? maybe.

mmmm

I have Macs and PCs ...
and been running versions of PT from the long ago.
Interfaces are not completely the same but that is not to say that the code underneath isn't near the same.

I still have to do the null test.

I'm mixing an album and I got a little bored today so I tried the nul test.

Have just upgraded to HD and I'm not completely satisfied with what is going on yet but here is what I have so far.

The HD system has an auto plug timing thing going on that you can't switch OFF and I can't use the trim tool to adjust sample delay ... only level option now. Mix had both.

Digi Rack EQ is 4 samples delay and has a max of 12 dB boost.
Focusrite d@ 4 band is 5 samples and has a max of 15db boost.
so there is some difference in code at some level.

With the bands switched OFF the null test doesn't work ... 4 sample vers 5 samples
???

In RTAS mode that does work.

In HD mode the max null I could get was on a band was :
digi 6dB / 1.2 k / 1.3Q
d2 4dB / 1.2 k / 1.3Q
for a high shelf :
digi 6dB 3.3 k
d2 6db 6k

I don't think you can draw any conclusions to any of this with this info.
My thinking is that you would need an insider to know for sure that the two plugs are driven by the same code.

I still don't think in TDM these things sound the same. Similar ... sure.
In RTAS they may be closer BUT I just couldn't say for sure.

The high pass filter on the d2 6 band does seem to flip polarity which is what I would expect it to do.

Does any of this matter !! It's a plug !!
You use what ever you have to create the sound you want and if you can't ... then find another way.
For me the Alsihad systems are still the cheapest way to get the maximum amount of work done for the least amount of effort.
