Hi,

I am looking for a good matched quartet of EL34/6BQ5 tubes for my Vox AC30/6 TP amplifier and I have some question anout:

1- What is the maximum bias current that this amp can supply without trouble at all??
2- Did someone use the 7189 tubes in this guitar amp before?....How about the bias(how much)?
3- What tube do you thinks is better for Pop and Rock Music in this amp?? and What bias current (mili-Ampres)do you recommend for?

Thanks a lot anticipated,
Opacheco.

I can't help on the bias question since I've never bothered on a self biased amp.

Tube suggestions are highly subjective. Also, I think you mean EL84 and not EL34. What kind of speakers are in it now? What is missing from the sound that you expect to change with a tube swap? Keep in mind, tube swaps can be very subtle.

For AC30 circuits with Celestion Blues I like JJ tubes. They help deal with some of the ice pick and they've all lasted a long time. Mullards are also very highly regarded (obviously). If you have ceramic speakers in there, you may want to lean towards the mullards or something that won't "warm up" the tone like the JJs. I have a very difficult time going NOS on EL84s because they seem to take a beating more than other power tubes.
