Hi all
I'm building a wallmount panel between my booth and the control room. So, one side is 16 female XLR and the other side is 16 male XLR (pretty basic I know). I also put 2 headphone connectors (2x TRS jack on each side) and 2 instrument jack. I just picked some encased TRS jack for the instrument and headphone jacks (all the same one). Is it ok to plug an instrument cable (TS) into the TRS jack (my understanding is that there will be no contact through the ring so the signal will be carried as TS). Is it ok?
Second one, regarding to linking both side of the wall panel, is it better to buy some high quality XLR cabling and just cut the required lenght and solder each side to the connectors? I guess it's better due to the shielding around the cables? Same thing with TRS? Do I have to ground the chassis (the faceplate are aluminium)? Because, it's like I was just passing a cable through a wall between a microphone and my soundcard. The only difference is that I have a panel to make things a little more elegant haha. I see the wall panel as a continuity of the cable, so I don't really need to groudn the case, since the ground will end up in my soundcard connectors, which are gorunded.
Thank you all folks
